How to install a screen on
your New Found Metals Stainless or Bronze Portlight
With an adjuster wrench and butterknife (or similar
flat edged object) you can install a screen in
a few easy steps. |
|
|
|
Step 1
Install
Screen
Start gasket at the top two corners.
Guide the edges of the screen’s
gasket through the mainframe with
a butterknife. |
|
Tip: Keep pressure on each
section until all edges of the
gasket are in place. |

Step 2
Adjust Upper Hinge Posts
With the screen installed, the
glass frame will not close down
all the way. This is because the
thickness of the screen’s
gasket has created a new sealing
surface. Turn top hinge nuts counter-clockwise
to loosen. This will allow the
bottom edge of the glass frame
to fall closer to the sealing
surface. You want a 3/16”
to 3/8” gap along the bottom
edge, between the glass frame
and the screen. This will ensure
a proper seal. |

Step
3 Adjust
Cam Dog for Seal
With the
screen installed and the glass
frame in position to seal, the
cam dogs will not close over the
glass frame. You need to adjust
their height, by loosening the
cap head, so that they will close
over the glass frame. Once cam
dogs can close over glass frame,
snug up for seal. |
|
|
To remove screen, open
glass frame and gently pull screen out. If you want
to close the glass frame without the screen, adjust
the upper hinges and bottom cam dogs so that the glass
frame is sealing against the port’s main frame.
